The suspects were arrested in Dan Makam Tia District.
The agents admitted that the Burmese suspects were picked up from many areas. The locations include from the chicken factory in Ratchaburi Province, the Thai union company in Mahachai District, Samut Sakhon Province, a construction site in Nakhon Pathom province, and more. Many of the workers claim that they traveled from Ratchaburi with the goal to reach the main city of Kanchanaburi. From that point they planned to travel into Myanmar. The agents would have received 200-5,000 THB per person that they delivered.
Officials measured each of the suspects temperature and none had a fever. The suspects have been delivered to the Dan Makam Tia Police Station waiting for prosecution. Khaosod News reported that the agents admitted all the Burmese workers were picked up from locations where Covid-19 case numbers are high. This is the first arrest of Burmese workers in Kanchanaburi Province where the foreign workers wanted to travel back to Myanmar. Usually, it is the opposite where they have entered into Thailand illegally normally through natural passageways. As Covid-19 numbers rise and the hunt for vaccines continue, similar cases are to be expected.
