The ‘curse’ of Tarutao Island

Mr Jinda Sisuppatpong, deputy chief of Tarutao National Park in southern Thailand, was not surprised when a cardboard box containing pebbles arrived at his office on Wednesday.

The officer has received many such packages from Thais and foreigners since he took up his position on the remote island two years ago.

According to Mr Jinda, the island is protected by a divine being. Some visitors who took pebbles or vandalized the island had fallen ill or lost their jobs after returning home, he told Sanook.com on Thursday (Feb. 8, 2018).

“I have met a number of tourists who returned to the island with the pebbles they took home,” he said.
