Similan islands closed for a few months

THOSE planning a trip to Similan islands off southern Phang Nga province’s coast will have to put it off for a few months because these islands are being temporarily closed, Sanook.com reported today (May 16).

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation announced that the Similan Islands National Park will be temporarily from Wednesday May 16 onward, and will reopen again in October, Sanook!Travel’s columnist Peeranut P. said.

This is so because the onset of the rainy season has led to this group of 11 island being lashed by monsoon storms, and it would be safer for tourists to stay away till October.

This closure would also give marine life a chance to rest after receiving visitors all year.

These 11 islands are the perfect travel destination for tourists who like to dive and explorer remote and desolate places full of wildlife, Wikipedia.com said

The largest island is Koh Similan ,and it is probably the best place to start an adventure. All the Similan islands are surrounded by crystal clear shallow waters that harbor exciting rock formations and spectacular coral reefs. The marine life around the Islands is unmatched in Thailand and the region.
