LET’S face it; Phuket is no Las Vegas, and the main reason you would be coming to the island is to relax by the beach and escape the stress of your daily life. But Phuket does have a few entertaining shows that you should pay a visit to, especially if you are interested in the local and national culture of the country.
Phuket Fantasea
Phuket Fantasea is probably the most well-known show in Phuket. Located in Kamala, on the island’s West coast, it opened its door in 1998 at a staggering cost of US$100 million. The show retraces the history of Thailand and the Kingdom of Siam, as it used to be called. It is a mix of performance, elephant show, fire jugglers and acrobats that perform together through different eras of the country.
Phuket Fantasea also offers a restaurant, Golden Kinnaree, where you can feed yourself on delicious Thai treats prior to the show. It also boasts a 60 acres land, filled with attractions, games and souvenir shops for you to bring something back home.
Tickets are sold for show only or including the buffet at the restaurant.
Siam Niramit
A more recent addition to the Phuket scene, Siam Niramit is located in Phuket Town, on the Bypass Road. Easy to access, the show is somewhat similar to Phuket Fantasea, as it retraces the history of the country and its mythological beliefs, such as the Heaven and Hell.
The venue also caters to hungry visitors with its restaurant and offers several tiers tickets, that include or exclude food. While the show starts at 8.30 p.m., it is recommended to arrive earlier to have time to visit the traditional Thai village they recreated on their premises.
Simon Cabaret
If you are looking for a place to have fun and be amazed by incredible costumes, then look no further than Simon Cabaret, in Patong. This musical ladyboy show offers three performances per day that mix comedy, dance and stunning visual creations.
If you are in this area of Phuket, this is certainly a piece of entertainment you should consider visiting.
Pro tip: make sure to visit their website if you are interested in booking; you will get a much better price than by booking the show through your hotel or travel agency. Also, please keep in mind that you won’t be able to take any pictures during the show as they don’t want people to spoil it for others.
