200 million baht damage in seafood factory fire

A HUGE fire at a seafood factory in adjacent Samut Sakhon province that broke out at 7.30 a.m. this morning (July 2, 2018) caused at least 200 million baht damage but no injuries have been reported so far, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

The blaze at the Thai Royal Frozen Food Company, which is a big frozen seafood exporter of this province and ranks among the top exporters of this category of products nationwide, spread out of control for 1 hour.

The 20 fire engines and large number of firemen had difficulty in controlling the blaze because the large 2 story building, spread over almost 2 rai of land, was used to fry seafood and there was a lot of cooking oil around. There were also piles of foam boxes which further fanned the blaze.

The managers of this factory are Mr Thawee and Mrs Amphai Harnkraiwilai, who are president of Samut Sakorn Chamber of Commerce and secretary- general of the Thai Frozen Foods Association respectively.
