Surat Thani – A tour bus taking 38 holidaymakers, among them Westerners, from Bangkok to Koh Pha Ngan flipped and slid off the road near Don Sak ferry pier after the driver had to swerved to avoid hitting a motorcyclist who was trying to overtake the much bigger vehicle, Thai News Agency said today (April 11).
At 6.05 a.m. this morning Pol. Capt. Preecha Suksong, an investigating officer at Don Sak police station, was alerted about this accident at Baan Nai-Don Sak Road and quickly sent volunteers to help the passengers. Four of them, three women and a man, were slightly injured and were taken to Don Sak Hospital.
Surin Choochai, 54, the tour coach driver told police that he left Bangkok at 6.45 p.m. yesterday with the 38 passengers heading for Don Sak ferry pier where he was to help his passengers board a ferry to Koh Pha Ngan. When he reached the spot of the accident a motorcycle tried to cut across the front of his vehicle so he had to quickly swerved to avoid hitting the motorcyclist which led to the coach losing balance and flipping as it slid off to the side of the road.
