WITH the passing of four of 7 dangerous days of the New Year the road death toll has now risen to 239 while 2,500 people were severely injured in 2,380 accidents, INN News reported today (Jan. 1, 2018).
Minister of Tourism and Sports Weerasak Kowsurat said on New Year’s Eve yesterday there were altogether 678 accidents with 65 fatalities and 714 people injured.
Western Kanchanaburi province recorded the most road deaths yesterday, totaling 4, while northern Chiang Rai province had the most injuries numbering 25.
The biggest cause is still drunk driving with 48.67% of the accidents blamed on drunkenness, while speeding came next at 26.40%.
This took the statistics for 4 dangerous days of the New Year to 2,380 accidents, 239 fatalities and 2,500 people injured. The highest number of accidents took place in northern Chiang Mai province, totaling 86 times, while 2 northeastern provinces, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathan, had the highest number of road deaths at 11 each.
This New Year celebration’s road accident statistics are lower than last year’s when after 4 days there were 2,712 accidents and 280 fatalities.
