CONSTUCTION workers dug up a total of 98 practice bombs near Krung Thon Bridge today (March 19) and bomb disposal officers say the Thai armed forces do not use this type of ammunition, Thai News Agency reported.
Meanwhile Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Srivara Rangseepromnakul ruled out that this cache of practice bombs is linked to national security.
The 98 BDU 33 practice bombs were found buried a meter deep in the ground at a 4-rai construction site near Sang Hi junction. They are a foot long and weigh 25 pounds each.
Pol. Gen. Srivara said these practice bombs do not have any dynamite and are 45 years old and for this reason are not linked to national security.
While the Thai armed forces do not use this type of practice bomb, Pol. Gen. Srivara thinks they are still in use in US.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit will comb the surrounding area to prevent any danger, he added.
Construction workers said they dug a meter deep into the ground and found the practice bombs stacked up together so quickly called the police.
Mr Kraithip Kraisorn, the plot’s owner, came in and told police that this used to be his ancestral home and the spot where the practice bombs were found used to be a pond, with a small store currently being built there.
