ROYAL Thai Air Force Commander-in-Chief Air Chief Marshal Chom Rungsawang today (March 27) confirmed that the commanders of the armed forces will not be separating from National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), Thai News Agency reported.
Referring to a call by the pro-election group that the heads of the armed forces split up with NCPO, ACM Chom pointed out that Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, the deputy prime minister and defense minister, and Army Chief Gen. Chalermchai Sitthisart had already fully answered this question.
Regarding the pro-election group possibly traveling to the air force base to pile on pressure, ACM Chom jokingly said a table would be arranged to serve them water because they might get tired as the base is a long way away.
However, he added that he personally does not believe this group would come to the air force base.
The Air Force Chief also pointed out that NCPO is not interfering in politics because it is the military’s duty to ensure that there is peace and order in the country so that it heads towards a good general election.
NCPO is the military so it is not possible for the military commanders to quit being its members, he said, adding that he hoped the pro-election group does not break the law.
