Air quality update: Suvarnabhumi covered in dust.

The Pollution Control Department has updated the air quality information representing the current situation of areas in Bangkok and nearby for the 13th of January this year. There are still 19 spots near the main road and 16 areas where the dust is still at dangerous levels, specifically concerning dust particles smaller than PM 2.5 which is dust that your breathing system is not able to filter 100% before entering your lungs.

The dust level from 12.00 to 15.00 of the 13th have remained almost the same. The Pollution Control Department asks citizens especially those residing in the danger zones to not start any fires for burning and to not drive cars that emit black smoke, this is to avoid making the air quality even worse than it is. Citizens can monitor the current air quality through the application Air4Thai or through the website address at http://air4thai.pcd.go.th.

Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand’s main international airport is also joining in on the crisis of dangerous dust levels. Many users on Social Media including Twitter and Facebook have shared photos that seriously make us question the health of our lungs. The pictures show a fog like view, but the problem is that’s actually tiny dust particles spread through the air, so much that you can hardly see the airplanes.

The Suvarnabhumi Airport is located in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. The airport is connected to the highway allowing direct access from Bangkok through car and also via the Skytrain. There is so much dust that can be seen with the naked eye, enough to inform us of the level of dust crisis we are facing against without having to use any special air quality measurement equipment.

Citizens living near Suvarnabhumi, workers, travelers and everyone near the airport agree that the air is definitely hard to breathe in making them feel extremely uncomfortable along with some even becoming sick with runny noses and constant coughing from the dust. The dust is so thick, that it is hard to see in some moments, let alone driving or flying.

Travelers planning to fly during this period should travel with extra time as many airlines have had to delay their flights due to the dust situation.
