A RED flag has been raise in Ayutthaya’s Tha Ruea district after Rama 6 Dam started releasing 599 cubic meters of water per second with some floodwaters already appearing in the basements of some homes in Tha Luang subdistrict, Thai News Agency said this morning.
Tha Ruea district chief Vithit Pinikorn said that a red flag is raised whenever this dam releases more than 550 cubic meters of water per second as a danger warning.
Meanwhile Ayutthaya Vice Governor Rawat Prasong said Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province is now releasing 1,988 cubic meters of water per second leading to communities along Chao Phraya and Noi rivers as well as Bang Luang , Bang Ban and Bang Phra Kru canals seeing floodwaters rise.
Altogether seven Ayutthaya districts are currently flooded with these being Bang Ban, Sena, Phak Hai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Bang Pa-in, Bang Sai and Bang Pahan. A total of 84 subdistricts, 480 villages and 23,321 houses have been affected so far.
Two more districts, Tha Ruea and Nakorn Luang, are at risk of being flooded because they adjoin Pa Sak River, he added.
Meanwhile the Thai Meteorological Department forecast that continuous rain is still likely with isolated heavy falls in the upper part of the North and Northeast over the next seven days. During October 11-13, 2016 there will be abundant rain and isolated heavy to very heavy falls in Central, the East and Bangkok and its vicinity.
At the same time tropical storm Aere is now over upper South China Sea and is coasting westwards near southern China. However meteorologists say it has not affected Thailand yet but all travelers should stay tuned for weather updates.
