Bad storm destroys houses in Chiang Mai

CHIANG Mai officials rushed to check the damage caused by a violent storm which knocked down 30 houses and sent some roofs flying into the fields in Fang District’s Mae Kha subdistrict this morning (April 5) but fortunately there were no injuries, Thai News Agency said.

Another 256 houses were damaged in this northern province’s Mae Ai district with it still raining and the sky heavily overcast all morning.

Meanwhile the Thai Meteorological Department warned that during April 5-7 a low pressure covering the South and Gulf of Thailand brings in strong easterly winds and lots of heavy to very heavy showers in some places with waves in the Gulf of Thailand likely to be higher than two meters.

Meanwhile a westerly trough from Myanmar moves in and covers the North and Northeast during April 5-10 while southeasterly winds move into the Northeast, Central and East including Bangkok Metropolis and its vicinity causing thundershowers.
