Narongchai Khunpluem the Mayor of Sansuk in Chonburi Province shared pictures showing Bang Sean Beach full of plastic waste on 5 May 2020. The mayor expressed his disappointment to those who have no care for the environment, even in the times of Covid-19. The caption for the pictures stated “Many people really don’t change. These people say they miss Bang Sean Beach and wish to see a clean clear beach free from umbrellas, beds, and chairs. A lot of sellers on Bang Sean Beach do not care to take care of the area at all. They leave all the goods on the beach instead of taking it home, too lazy. Other beaches are beautiful, with good environmental care.
As for Bang Sean, the road has been reopened for only one day. The beach is already lined with trash, left behind by the visitors. The beach has washed up piles of waste (from people littering in the ocean). It all collects and comes back. People never care nor are they conscious about the environmental impact. There are also a lot of electrical wires hanging all over the place. I haven’t noticed this before, even if there was nothing on the Bang Sean Beach it wouldn’t matter. The only way to keep the beach beautiful would be to continue closing the road, along with closing waterways where people dump trash into the water, it just ends up in the ocean. It’s not the proper solution, because the main cause is people who just don’t care”.
The Mayor also stated that many sellers on the beach joined training about the rules and regulations of the beach, but they still don’t care. It is time to reorganize the beach to find a balance between tourism, business, and the environment. Narongchai promises to work harder in finding solutions for all sides. The pictures show only a small part of what is happening in Bang Sean, Chonburi Province.
