A seafood restaurant in the Thai tourist city of Pattaya was shut down this afternoon (Jan. 23) after it was caught serving barbecued seahorses to Chinese tourists, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.
Seahorses are considered a “gem” among a group of Chinese men who believe the animal has a substance in its body that increases libido when consumed. The group has its own web page that highlights the quality of seahorse meat.
The restaurant, located in a floating market outside Pattaya City, was immediately shut down by the owner of the market.
