RESIDENTS of Wang Nam Khiao district in northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province which is a popular tourist destination renowned for its good clean air are urgently calling for help after mountains of garbage has built up at the local disposal site as this could lead to streams being contaminated thereby wildlife affected, Thai News Agency reported today (August 17, 2018).
The disposal site, at the end of Moo 12 village in Ban Wang Phai subdistrict, is around 5 rai and has 2 incinerators which are in a bad state and are located in a building with a damaged roof.
Exacerbating the situation is that the amount of garbage from homes and resorts being dumped here is more than these 2 shaky machines can handle with the mountains of trash spreading a bad smell all around.
The garbage has spilled outside the fenced garbage site and spread across 10 rai of the community forest surrounding it.
During the rainy season the garbage polluted rainwater flows into streams which wild animals drink from and residents are worried that they might be fall sick.
They urge all agencies concerned to quickly resolve this problem because Wang Nam Khiao a scenic tourist gem with fresh clean air.
