The Suvarnabhumi Airport Tourist Police arrested a Canadian woman after she was captured on security footage stealing other passengers luggage from the conveyor belt at the airport.
Officials reported the arrest of Heather 47 years old from Canada on the 9th of this month (September 2019). Heather was arrested under the power of an arrest warrant no.603/2562 issued on the 4th of this month by the Samutprakan Provincial Court. She will be prosecuted on charges of theft after stealing luggage from the conveyor belt in the arrivals on 27 August 2019. She was arrested on the 6th of this month when she came to check-in for her flight to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On the 27th of August, a victim came to file a report with the police after their luggage got lost while it was on the conveyor belt in the international arrivals of the airport. When Suvarnabhumi officials checked the security footage they found Heather picking up the luggage as if it belonged to her before taking it with her.
They looked into Heather’s travel plans and found out she had a flight to the UAE on the 6th of this month. Officials waited for her at the check-in area of the airline she planned to fly on. When they saw her walking in the officials arrested her on the spot. Heather admitted to all charges and stated that this was her first time stealing from the conveyor belt at an airport.
It is not clear whether this was truly her first time stealing in an airport, Heather will be prosecuted accordingly to Thai law and further investigation will take place to see if there was anyone else helping or ordering Heather to steal the luggage. The victim will also be notified of the arrest, although it is unclear if all belongings still remain intact with the suitcase.
