The internet has definitely brought a long list of internet trends and millions of #hashtags scattered all around the globe. Some of the trends have been for a good cause such as the Ice Bucket Challenge but some challenges have definitely made us doubt the fate of humanity a few times, for example, the Duct Tape Challenge that a teen ended up losing one eye with brain aneurysm, The Choking Game, The Salt and Ice Challenge, and even more.
Finally, in 2019 a challenge has surfaced with a mission that actually serves a purpose and with enough participants can start a chain reaction of changing the world by bringing awareness of the damage that we are causing to the earth from the trash that we use every day.
In Thailand alone, in 2016 the Pollution Control Department of Thailand revealed that Thailand produces an average of 27 tons of garbage per year. This collects an amount of 2 Baiyoke towers. One person puts out an average of 1.14 kilograms of garbage per day. This is ridiculous when we consider whether the plastic and other materials that we are throwing away after minutes of use is truly a necessity or an unnecessary accessory to our lives.
The #cleanupchallenge is the latest global challenge that teenagers and even adults are participating in. The challenge might not be the easiest and may require a few of your friends to complete, but it will certainly be for a good cause.
First, you will need to find a location scattered with trash, this can be found almost everywhere in Thailand as it can be agreed together that the waste management and control here is not the best. Take a before picture of the location with you and your friends in the picture. Then clean up all the trash. Take an after picture of the location to show how much it has changed after the trash has been removed at the site and upload it to your social media platforms.
A great Facebook page that shares the different participants in the #cleanupchallenge from all over the world is “Saveearthfromhumans”. You can also share your results in the comments of Thai Residents and inspire others to help clean up the world!
