The By-election in Chiang Mai constituency 8 took place on the 26th of this month with 65% of citizens coming to cast their vote. There are 377 voting stations across Chiang Mai in San Pa Tong District, Mae Wang District, Jomthong District, and Doi Lo District.
The counting of the votes began at 17.00 with representatives from each party and citizens witnessing the live count. The No.3 Voting Station in Moo 5, Ban Gad, Mae Wang District had the highest rate of voters in Mae Wang District with a total of 879 voters.
Thai citizens are greatly looking forward to the results of this re-election taking place in constituency 8 that includes 4 districts in Chiang Mai province as it may affect the current political situation that Thailand is currently watching unfold. Future Forward Party followers with the belief in pro-democracy also see this as another chance in the possibility of bringing another candidate from the party into the government.
The Workpoint News Team went to witness the live count at multiple voting booths. When about 50% of the votes were counted, the Future Forward Party Candidate Srinual Boonlue had a good chance of winning over the candidate from Palang Pracharath Party Nares Thamrongtipayakhun.
An average of 65% of citizens with the right to vote came to vote out of a total number of 163,833 citizens. Unofficial results show that the Future Forward Party won with 75,819 votes against the Palang Pracharath Party that scored 27,781 votes.
A large sum of citizens believes that many of Future Forward Party voters switched from Pheu Thai Party after the party was forbidden to join in the election this year (2019). As both parties believe in pro-democracy against some other parties who support pro-military.
