A COLOMBIAN man suspected of having joined fellow nationals in committing a string of robberies including the house of a senior military officer in April 2016 was arrested on a tour bus in northeastern Khon Kaen city this morning (June 16, 2018), the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.
Pol Lt-Gen Thanasak Ritthidejpaibul, deputy head of Provincial Police Region 4, and his team of officers arrested the foreign suspect, Robert Alexander William, 46. from Colombia at 9.30 a.m. on the tour bus heading from Bangkok to Udon Thani accompanied by his girlfriend.
They had searched every tour bus heading for this region from Bangkok all night long as investigator had found out that the suspect, against whom an arrest warrant was issued on April 26, 2016, was heading there.
Pol Lt-Gen Thanasak said the arrest followed the joint effort of many police units in tracking down the Colombian theft gang who stole goods from many places in Thailand especially houses in Bangkok and its suburbs plus Pattaya tourist city and Chonburi province.
One of the houses the Colombian gang raided in April 2016 was within the estate where Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has his house, he added.
Pol Lt-Gen Thanasak also said that the suspect had confessed that he joined 4 friends who are also from Colombia in mounting a string of robberies during Songkran 2016, and that they once hit the house of a senior military officer and got away with goods worth 2 million baht.
