Concern over suicide in Thailand

September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day and Thailand must take serious action to deal with this problem, Mental Health Department (MHD) director-general Kiattipoom Wongrajit told the Thai-language daily Thai Rath yesterday (Sept 10, 2019).

According to the MHD, around 11-12 Thais take their own life each day for various reasons. In 2018, 4,137 Thais (3,327 men and 810 women) committed suicide, with the biggest group being people between 25-59 years old, followed by people older than 60, and those between 10-24 years old.

World Suicide Prevention Day is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world since 2003.
