A WEALTHY Thai businessman and his wife have spent more than 100 million baht taking care of 2,500 stray cats and dogs since 2003. Their story was highlighted in the mass-circulation Thai-language daily Thai Rath today (Nov. 3).
Sixty-seven-year-old Anatchai Winittaopatom and his 67-year-old wife Kawiporn first took a few stray animals into their home in Nonthaburi, adjoining Bangkok. As more stray cats and dogs were rescued, the loud noise of the animals disturbed their neighbors. The couple then bought 30 rai of land in Saraburi province, which is now home to the animals.
Since they embarked on the animal rescue, the couple has spent more than 100 million baht feeding and caring for the animals, said Thai Rath. “With more animals rescued, I may have to sell one of my cement-mixing trucks to feed them” he told the paper.
