Court grants bail to foreign prostitution gang suspects

THE Criminal Court granted bail to the two Thais and two foreigners suspected of being members of a foreign prostitution gang at 300,000 baht each, INN News said today (August 11).

The two foreign suspects, Michael Pearl, 45, a Sudanese with Australian nationality, and Ghassan Wakej, 36, and the two Thai suspects, Chalard or Chairat Narachan, 62, and Aree or Chaiyakorn Uamsaree, 45, are accused of human trafficking by tricking women into prostitution under a Criminal Court arrest warrant.

Department of Special Investigation (DSI) police had asked the court to further detain the suspects because investigation is still continuing with more people to be questioned while they are awaiting the result of an examination of seized items and are also further checking the suspects’ criminal history.

However the four suspects petitioned the court to grant them bail and offered surety for temporary release.

The Criminal Court then ruled to release all four suspects on 300,000 baht bail each.

DSI said yesterday that the four suspects ran a brothel for Middle Eastern clients in a Sukhumvit shopping area together with five other foreigners from Sudan, Australia, Syria and Morocco.
