Crown Prince urges Thais to not worry

HIS Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn wants the Thai people to not worry about the succession issue and the administration of state affairs, saying the Constitution, the Palace law and tradition are in place to govern these issues, Thai PBS quoted Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha as saying in an announcement over TV pool late Saturday night.

The prime minister also disclosed that he and, Privy Council president General Prem Tinsulanonda, in his capacity as the Regent, were granted an audience with the Crown Prince to report state affairs at the Amporn Throne Hall, Dusit Palace, at about 7 p.m. on Saturday.

During the meeting, the prime minister said the Crown Prince expressed his wish that people not be confused or worried  about state affairs or even the succession issue which is governed by the Constitution, the Palace law and tradition.

As for the succession issue, the Crown Prince reportedly told the prime minister and General Prem that this issue should proceed at an appropriate time after the funeral ceremony and merit making rituals are over for a certain period of time as the government has already consulted the president of the National Legislative Assembly.

The Crown Prince was quoted by the prime minister as saying that as the country is in grief, including the Crown Prince himself, and all parties concerned should help the country  go through and overcome the grief and not feel that there are sudden changes after the passing away of His Majesty the King.

The Crown Prince, instead, wants every Thai citizen to make use of this moment to keep a fond memory of the past 70-year reign of the late King.

In his announcement, the prime minister thanked all officials concerned for their effort in providing convenience to members of the public to participate in the mourning ritual.

He also expressed his thanks to motorcycle taxi drivers for services rendered to the mourners.
