Currency forger arrested at fresh market

POLICE in northern Uthai Thani province today (Dec. 15) arrested a currency forger and seized some fake notes as well as equipment to produce them, Thai News Agency reported.

The suspect, Mr Panya Sumsaed, 55, confessed that he had been arrested for the same crime last July in southern Trang province, but behaved well while in detention, and upon being freed has been going around to many provinces spending these fake banknotes.

Pol. Maj. Samart Sukkhon, an investigator at Mueang Uthai Thani police station, and his team moved in to arrest Panya after being informed by vendors at a fresh market that he had bought goods from many of them, and seemed eager to get the change for a pile of 100 baht notes.

Police checked his bags and found a printer, printer ink and other paraphernalia used to produce these counterfeit notes, totaling 1,650 baht in 20, 50 and 100 baht denominations.

Panya told police that he previously sold fruit, but upon being given a fake note by a buyer, he wanted to hit back so went around making and using these fake notes.
