THE Appeals Court today (July 17, 2018) affirmed the lower court’s death sentence against a former village headman convicted of raping and killing a high-school girl in the northeastern Thai province of Kalasin in 2015, the Thai-language Daily News reported.
The 2015 incident shocked the close-knit rural village of Sithan in Kamalsai District, where serious crime was unheard of.
The suspect, Krittidech Rawengwan, 36, first denied all charges, but confessed after doctors confirmed the bite marks on his hands were caused by the young victim.
The girl’s parents and close friends wept and hugged each other after the judge affirmed his verdict.
