THE Royal Irrigation Department today (Oct. 27) refuted online news that the Chao Phraya Dam will be releasing more water after October 26, INN News reported.
Royal Irrigation Department’s Office of Water Management and Hydrology said this dam is not releasing more water but low-lying areas outside the flood walls along the Chao Phraya river are flooded including the river banks in nearby Pathum Thani’s Mueang and Sam Khok districts.
Mr Thanin Nueangthodthet, director of the Pathum Thani Irrigation Project, said the Royal Irrigation Department has been releasing water from the Chao Phraya Dam at 2,697 cubic meters a second from October 23 until 6 am today with water also being diverted both eastwards and westwards at 769 cubic meters a second.
He underscored that the department has no plans to release more water.
Among the 14 areas downstream from the dam affected by the flood where mostly houses are inundated are Chai Nat’s Sapphaya district, Sing buri’s Mueang district, Ang Thong’s Pa Mok district and Ayutthaya’s Bang Ban, Phak Hai and Sena districts.
He added that the amount of water flowing pass station 29 at Ayutthaya’s Bang Sai district right now is 2,826 cubic meters a second which is lower the river’s capacity of 3, 500 cubic meters a second which means that Bangkok and neighboring provinces are not affected by the Chao Phraya river water level.
