The number of people suffering from depression has gone up to more than 5,000 in the tourist island of Samui this year, the Thai-language Daily News reported yesterday (Nov 4, 2019).

Samui Hospital deputy director Songyot Chayaninporamet said the problem is mainly caused by the high cost of living, unemployment, crime, and narcotic drug consumption.

The hospital has specialists to look after people with mental health problems and provide traditional Thai foot massage and consultation to the patients who need them.
