Election Commission faces impeachment

A group of university lecturers, students and people in the northern Thai province of Chiang Mai has gathered more than 800,000 signatures to impeach the Election Commission (EC) for their alleged poor handling of the general election on March 24, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported yesterday (March 29, 2019).

Their campaign was later joined by students from Chulalongkorn, Thammasat, Kasetsart, Burapha, Naresuan and Chiang Mai universities.

In their statement, the lecturers and students raised questions about the efficiency of the EC in handling the election, which may have resulted in fraud.
