The court has ordered Electronic Monitoring on 33 drivers counted on the last day of 2018, December 31st. Those with the Electronic Monitoring bracelet are prohibited from going outside of their living quarters at night time for 15 days and are prohibited from driving any vehicles for 6 months.
Prasarn Mahaleetrakoorn from the Department of Probation has revealed to the public information from the Thai court on drivers driving under the influence during the first 4 days of the 7 days of holiday in Thailand from December 27 to December 30, 2018. There are over 3,525 cases in which the court has ordered special probation on the drunk drivers.
On the 4th day of the holidays (30 December 2018), the enforcement of the law is more strict and over 207 cases of probation specifically on cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. There might seem to be a lot of cases, but not all drunk drivers were judged as some courts remain closed on the holidays, it is estimated that there would be a much higher number of probation cases by Electronic Monitoring if all courts were open for judgment.
For the cases that have been judged to be specially monitored under probation by the Electronic Monitoring Bracelet, the drunk drivers are absolutely prohibited to leave their homes from 22.00 to 04.00 for 15 days. They must also perform social services for 24 hours and are prohibited from driving for 6 months.
The first 4 days of the holiday, 33 drunk drivers were ordered to be Electronically Monitored by the EM bracelet. 26 drunk drivers were arrested in Bangkok city, 4 drunk drivers were arrested in Khon Kaen province, and 3 drunk drivers were arrested in Buriram province. They will be under probation counting from the 1st of January 2019.
