POLITICAL drum beats got louder today (Jan. 30) when a group of former members of parliament announced that they would contest the next general election under a new party, the Thai-language Daily News reported.
The “Citizens’ Power Party” (Palang Ponlamuang in Thai) was set up by 30 former members of Parliament from different parties to avoid “political dead-ends” and the vicious cycle of coups.
Party spokesman Ekkaporn Rakkwamsook said Thailand needed an administrative system that promotes transparency and sustainable development. He cited Switzerland as a model for Thailand to follow.
“We must also promote social equality, eradicate poverty and respect the rule of law,” he added.
