Fire at Big C Saphan Kwai warehouse

SHOPPERS and staff fled in panic after a fire broke out at Big C Saphan Kwai’s warehouse at the rear of store but the blaze was put out in half and hour and there were no injuries, Thai News Agency said today (May 14).

Police are still determining the cause of the fire but initially found out that it started at some fruit crates at the warehouse and delivery bay at the back of the store.

The flames shot out from within the warehouse outwards and thick black smoke covered the compound.

Initially the store staff tried to put out the blaze themselves but did not succeed and it was only extinguished half and hour later after four fire engines reached the site.

Bangkok police chief Pol Gen Sanit Mathavorn inspected the scene and said it has yet to be determined whether this fire was an accident or deliberately set or even occurred through carelessness.

As there were people in the area they have to be questioned and CCTV footage checked, he added.
