This sad incident takes place in Mu Koh Surin (Surin Island), Phang Nga province. On the 3rd night of this month, Siripat Pattanakul the governor of Phang Nga was notified of a fire in the Morgan village. The governor along with the local police went to check on the fire.
When they arrived, they realized that this was not a normal house fire. The fire started when the villagers tried to repair one of their boats under one of the houses, suddenly the boat exploded. After the explosion, the fire spread so fast that no one could stop it.
All the houses in the Morgan village are made from wood along with the fact that the wind currents were very strong when the fire started, this made the flames even stronger as it quickly made its way to over 137 houses, burning down the whole village.
The police along with the Mariners in the area tried to bring out as many valuables as they could from each house before the heat would finally drive them out. Out of all the houses in the village, when the fire finally decided to calm down, only the local school and 17 houses were left standing. Through all the lost, luckily no one has been hurt by the fire.
Villagers are currently seeking shelter at the Mu Koh Surin National Park. Puttapot Kuprasit the head of the National Park has revealed that the cause of the fire is not clear to whether the repairing of the boat was really the cause or not. The officers from the Mu Koh Surin National Park along with the Mariners in the area helped to control the flames as much as they could. It was not an easy job, but finally, the fire slowly dimmed down. The National Park is providing support to the villagers along with giving them a temporary residence, especially to women, children, and the elderly.
