A FISH kill occurred again this morning (Oct. 17) in Hua Hin and small dead fish were scattered across a distance of 12 kilometers with locals busy collecting them to use as animal feed, Thai News Agency said.
Dead fish covered Hua Hin’s beach from Saphan Pla, the main port in the center of this seaside town, till Had Takiab beach which is a 12-kilometer stretch. A fish die-off occurred in the middle of last month but that time it was big not small fish which littered the beach.
Mr Chirawat Phramanee, the deputy head of Hua Hin Municipality, told environmental officials to ask soldiers at Pranburi military camp to help collect the fish to prevent an impact on the environment because some are beginning to smell.
Mr Thanet Phumthong, director of Prachuap Khiri Khan Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center, said a fish kill occurs at both Hua Hin and next-door Cha-am beaches every October and November because heavy rain lowers the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the seawater.
Tides rising and falling during this period also affect marine animals with the heat of the sun impacting them as well and all this causes some to die and waves wash them ashore.
