THE serious flooding in western Phetchaburi province has led to a large number of tourists cancelling their Hua Hin and Cha-am hotel bookings for the upcoming long weekend marking Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, the Thai-language daily Matichon said today (Aug. 7, 2018).
Mr Rungroj Sueluengsawat, a consultant to Hua Hin and Cha-am Tourist Business Association and owner of Hua Hin Grand and Plaza Hotel, said hotel bookings will likley drop further because some tourists traveling from the central region to the 2 seaside towns via Phet Kasem highway have already cancelled their reservations.
Being uncertain about driving short or long distance to the 2 seaside towns, they have now opted to go to other provinces which are more convenient to travel to.
“In order to prevent an impact on the tourist market in the low season, concerned officials are urged to publicize news about the routes and areas affected by the discharge of water from Kaeng Krachan Dam (in Phetchaburi province),” he said.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Prayut Cha-o-cha and his delegation will be visiting Phetchaburi province tomorrow to check the flood situation.
He and his team will be flying to Phetchaburi’s Tha Yang district by helicopter at 8.30 a.m., and after that will go by car to Kaeng Krachan dam to check the water management.
After being briefed on this dam’s current situation and giving directives, he will check the dam’s D9 floodgate and will fly back at 3.30 p.m. that same afternoon.
