Gen Prawit: Election will take place by Feb 24, 2019

DEPUTY Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan today (Sept 13, 2018) confirmed that a general election will take place by February 24, 2019 with this coming after 2 key organic laws received Royal approval and were published in the Royal Gazette, clearing the way for an election by May 2019, Sanook.com reported today (Sept. 12, 2018).

Gen Prawit refused to go into details of the upcoming election, saying Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had yet to call a meeting of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on this issue.

However he said he was again confirming that an election would take place by February 24 next year as he had done many times previously.

Asked whether the election issue would be raised for discussion with outgoing American Ambassador Mr Glyn T. Davies who is paying him a visit today upon completing his term here, Gen Prawit said he did not think so because this was an internal matter.

Gen Prawit also said that officers were carrying out further investigation to catch all those linked to the production of black T-shirts carrying the logo “federation.” The investigators were trying find out who headed this network and what their objectives were.

Thailand had liaised with Laos to track down this group, and in the past had received good cooperation from the neighboring country, he added.
