Gen.Prawit orders check on Yingluck’s escape route

DEPUTY Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan ordered security agencies to check former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s escape route while underscoring that reports say she has already fled but as yet there is no clear evidence that she has done so, Thai News Agency said today (August 25).

He added that legal action will be taken against anyone found to have helped her flee.

Upon being questioned about reports that Ms Yingluck fled overseas on Wednesday August 23 with there being a high-level official car helping her go to Cambodia via Koh Chang with the final destination being Singapore, Gen. Prawit said he does not know about this because he was attending a meeting and got news that she had escaped via online new sites.

Gen. Prawit added that it could be true that she had escaped because there are many routes she could have taken to do so but she had previously confirmed many times that she would not flee.

He added that security agencies did not know about this nor did they open the way for her to flee.

Security agencies are following up on this and keeping a tight control on border areas while also determining which route was taken to escape, he said, adding that if any officer is found to have helped her flee that person would be immediately dismissed.
