Govt denies breaking up We Walk rally

THE Government came out to deny that it had broken up a rally by the We Walk activists when they reached their destination in Khon Kaen yesterday, pointing out the video clip of police breaking a protest being shared online is in fact of the action taken in 2013, INN News reported today (Feb. 17).

The We Walk marchers had set forth on their journey on foot from Thammsat University Rangsit Campus on January 20.

Government Spokesperson Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said video clip spreading online is in fact an old one showing police moving in to break up a protest by by People’s Democratic Reform Committee at Thai-Japanese Stadium in Din Daeng in 2013.

This then shows that there are ill-intentioned people trying to trigger a conflict in the country, he added.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha voiced concern about this issue because it is plainly visible that there are some people deliberately twisting the truth and hope to stir up politics.

Gen Prayut stressed that the government facilitated and took care of the marchers according to the ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court to do so temporarily until today, February 17, the last day of the march, and it has fully done so.
