Graft agency reviving 3 cases against Thaksin

THE National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has passed a resolution to revive three cases against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra with two of them concerning an Exim Bank loan to Myanmar and a lottery scheme, INN News said today (Oct. 12).

NACC’s chairman Pol. Gen. Watcharapol Prasarnratchkit said the agency is moving to revive these cases on corruption charges which the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders had temporarily halted due to the defendant having escaped because a new legislation allows such criminal cases to be tried in absentia.

In one of the three cases Thaksin is accused of allowing Exim Bank to release 4 billion baht loan to Myanmar for the development of telecommunications network there which allegedly benefited Shin Satellite Company which was part of Shin Corporation.

The other two cases concern a lottery scheme and alleged corruption in the purchase of fire trucks.
