TOURISTS vacationing in Hua Hin and other towns in Prachuab Kriri Khan province have been warned to not go swim or play in the sea right now because this coastal area is being pounded by strong waves from the Gulf of Thailand, Thai News Agency said today (Dec. 6).
Mr Kittikorn Thepyuamnart, head of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in Prachuab Kriri Khan, said the northeasterly monsoon, which is currently covering the Gulf of Thailand and the South, is still having a strong impact leading to this province getting continuous rain, with waves being as high as 2 to 3 meters.
Officials safeguarding tourist areas from Hua Hin beach till Bang Saphan Noi warned tourist not to go into the water at present, because the municipality area is being pounded by strong waves, which have also led to the coastal road being flooded.
Local fishermen have had to move their boats to safer areas.
