A FORESTRY Department official was trampled to death this afternoon (August 11, 2018) while leading a group of officials and local workers to chase wild elephants out of a fruit plantation in Muang District of northeastern Loei Province, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.
The dead official was helping the workers when one of the elephants turned on him. Loei District Officer Banpot Yafong later informed his family, who arranged a religious rite for him at a local temple.
“I think the elephant was hungry and went berserk when confronted with a big group of people,” said Mr Banpot.
