THE President of Italian-Thai Development Plc and 3 others have been arrested for sneakily hunting protected wildlife at the west side of Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in western Kanchanaburi province, INN News reported this morning (Feb. 6).
Mr Premchai Karnasuta, the president of this listed company which engages in construction business and undertakes projects across Thailand and oversees, was arrested together with Mr Yong Dodkrua, Mrs Nathee Reumsan and Mr Thanee Thummat for furtively hunting wildlife at this sanctuary, Mr Chaiwat Limlikhitaksorn, the sanctuary’s special operations unit leader said.
Seized from this top executives and the other 3 members of his group were rifles and bullets plus carcasses of grey peacock-pheasant, cattle and a dissected and skinned black panther.
Upon being questioned Mr Premchai said he and his party had got permission to set up a camp at this sanctuary but officials in charge said they had strayed from the set 30-kilometer route.
Mr. Wichian Chinwong, head of the west side of Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary and his team who tracked down the group and found the evidence arrested them and sent them to Thongphaphum police station to record the arrest and file charges of hunting wildlife in a protected area as well as other charges under Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act, BE 2535.
