Japanese held at airport with expired M16 magazines

A JAPANESE man was arrested at Don Mueang Airport today (May 9) with a large amount of expired M16 rifle magazines and other war weapon parts in his handbag, INN News reported.

The Japanese passenger was taking a flight back to his home country and put his bag through the  X-ray machine when this cache of expired war weapon parts were spotted, with a search of the bag confirming it.

Upon being questioned by Tourist Police at this airport, the Japanese man told them he bought the whole lot of  unusable war weapon parts at Ho Chi Minh City and was taking them back to his country to keep as a collection.

He added that he did not know he was breaking the law in doing so.

Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakphan, deputy chief of Tourist Police, said the Japanese man has been taken into custody and that he will be giving a press briefing on this case later today.
