Koh Chang durians now in season

KOH Chang (Chang Island) in the southeastern Thai province of Trat is well known among Thais and foreign tourists for its beautiful beaches.

For many others, it is the durian that draws them to the island during this time of the year, when the spiky fruits are ripe for harvest.

According to the Thai-language daily Thai Rath, the durian is now sold for 200 baht (about 5 US dollars) per kilogram.

If you drive around the island, you may come across baskets of durians on sale by the roadside. For those unfamiliar with this Thai fruit, there is a Thai phrase that says “it smells awful, but tastes like heaven.”
