A picture from JS100 has been going viral amongst Thai netizens showing a pedestrian walkway by the main road being taken over by motorbikes. This is the hard truth as one side of the walkway is used by motorbikes who prefer to open their own lane separate from the road and the other side of the walkway is taken by street food sellers.
Bangkokians have given up to the issue of the walkway being taken over by motorbikes and street sellers. Motorbike drivers use the walkway without shame or fear from being caught by the police. Normally the people in the area will know what time the police usually comes, so they plan accordingly to whether they can drive on the walkway or not.
JS 100 shared a picture on the 21st of this month that displayed the reality and how bad the issue has become for Lad Prao locals. The pedestrian walkway right by the Lad Prao 101 road was totally blocked off with lines of motorbikes using the walkway as if it was another car lane on the road. There was no space left for anyone who actually needed to use the walkway for walking.
A famous Facebook Page in Thailand “@ejeab” shared the picture and stated in the post, “Every time the motorbikes get backlash they disappear for a while… then they come back… ticket fines mean nothing to them. I told you, catching them won’t solve anything, the Bangkok Police can’t solve the issue. What they can do is put up big signs all over Bangkok that says “Driving your motorbike on the pedestrian walkway and driving in the wrong direction, *&#@ You!!!” At least let those who break the law know how we think about them.”.
