Regional water worries

RAIN is something people who live in Bangkok and many parts of the country won’t be missing so much if it stops tomorrow, but some dams’ water level are still too low.

While Thai Meteorological Department still warns of continual heavy rain in Southern part especially in Ranong, Phangnga and Phuket, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has ordered the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (aka Royal Rain) to take off and make more rain.

Surasee Kittimonthon, deputy director-general of the Department of Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation, said that Lamtakhong and Lam Phra Phloeng dams in Nakhon Ratchasima still have a relatively low water volume as well as Pranburi Dam in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Bang Lang Dam in Narathiwat. While the water level in the other major dams have already been filled up to a satisfactory level, the aforementioned dams need more work to ensure the capability to handle next year’s drought.

Bangkok meets its new Governor

 

TUESDAY in Royal Gazette, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, chairman of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), invoked Section 44 of the interim charter to remove MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra and replace him Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang.

Pol Gen Aswin was himself the deputy Bangkok governor until he learned about his ordered promotion around noon through a personal notification by Gen Prayut. One of the quick things he seems to need, with his new authority, is to appoint four new deputy governors to replace those also removed.

Considering the present situation, having an officially-appointed new governor is not a bad idea at all.

Privy Council Chambers has a new President (interim)

 

THE Privy Council Chambers announced past Wednesday that it has named Thanin Kraivixien, an 89-years-old Privy Councilor and country’s 14^th prime minister (appointed), as an interim president.

According to the 2007 constitution, the Privy Council president shall act as Regent pro tempore until the heir to the throne is crowned king and the regent cannot serve as Privy Council president at the same time.

Since Gen Prem Tinsulanonda is serving as a Regent pro tempore, the serving councilors must choose a new interim president from among their ranks, and legal expert Mr Thanin is selected to assume the position of Privy Council chief which is the advisory body to the king, until the Regent’s duty ends.

Australian funny game show not so funny

DURING the week across the big pond, the Royal Thai Embassy in Australia sent a letter to a media network, complaining about an aired game show that has part of the content mocking Thai people’s sadness from the country’s current loss.

According to Sydney Morning Herald on 19^th October, Network Ten received the letter in response to its ‘Have You Been Paying Attention?’ game show which has part of it joking around over a video clip of Thai people’s crying over the loss of their beloved King. The letter said such mocking was ‘inappropriate, disrespectful and certainly not amusing’ and asked for that segment of the show to be removed.

Network Ten, responded swiftly within the same day through a letter from CEO Paul Anderson, which expressed deep condolences, apologized for any distress caused, took the episode down and would make it available again after the complained segment had been removed.

You’ll be right, mate.

Google, Facebook, Line showed respect

NOT only did Google turned its logo black shortly after the death of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, it recently added a black bow at the bottom of the its page as well.

In case you haven’t notice, Facebook has stopped serving ads only in Thailand and will start serving ads again on the 21st of October 2016

And in case you haven’t restart your Line app recently, try doing so and you should see that the splash screen showing Line logo is in black and white.
