Locals continue to return home from Bangkok.
Citizens in Bangkok continue to return home in other provinces after all unnecessary business is closed down due to the Covid-19 situation in Thailand. Morchit Bus Terminal, the main terminal in Bangkok is still full of locals waiting to return home on 25 March 2020. The emergency decree taking place on 26 March 2020 is starting to take effect as the people continue to rush home despite concerns of the virus spreading across the nation.
The Transport Company has announced on their website that those planning to travel on 21 -27 March can purchase tickets directly at the counter on the travel date only. The call center at 1490 will be temporarily unavailable on 28 March 2020 from 00.01 – 6.00. Today on the 25th, citizens arrive before sunrise to wait in line for tickets, many with large bags with plans to move back to their family home in provinces across Thailand. Most buses that will be traveling long hours to far away provinces leave at noon to dark scheduled to arrive at the provinces in the morning. The call center will be closed for 6 hours on the 28th because the whole building will be deep cleaned.
The Transport Company has acknowledged the concept of Social Distancing and all seats on the buses are arranged accordingly. This is a safety measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19 starting from 26 March to 30 April 2020. Jirasak Yaovatsakul the Transport Company President stated that the company will follow the regulations that follow the Emergency Decree coming into effect on the 26th. All bus tickets are sold out until 30 April and no extra seats will be open for booking as Social Distancing must be taken very seriously. Those hoping to come to buy tickets right at the station during this time are advised to not do so, as there will not be any seats available.
The buses will be cleaned more often than usual and hand sanitizers will be available at all times. The company advises to travel or visit bus stations only when absolutely necessary. The Ministry of Public Health has asked that all passenger details are recorded and operators are required to provide the people on safety measures. Passengers that are not wearing a mask will not be allowed to travel.
