Lure of cash saves unstable man’s life

HOW do you persuade a mentally sick man not to jump from a telephone signal tower?

Pol Lt-Col Sopon Sokongsot toyed with this question for a long time this morning (April 6) after he received an emergency call that a man, identified later as Mr Kemchart, aged 26, had climbed up the tower in Buri Ram Province’s Village Group 9, and was at risk of falling down.

After a one-hour standoff, the police officer came up with a trick: He told the distraught man that he would get a cash reward if he just let the police help him.

With no reluctance, Kemchart climbed down, to the loud cheers of neighbors, according to sanook.com.
