TORRENTIAL rain that has lashed western Tak province for over 24 hours led to Mae Sot town on the Thai-Myanmar border being heavily flooded with officials, soldiers and police quickly helping the victims, Thai News Agency reported this afternoon (July 27, 2018).
The floodwaters in front of the Mae Sot municipality office are 40 centimeters high and are rising very fast in many other areas of this border town. The situation is particularly bad at communities located next to streams.
There is a big rush to install pumps to speedily drain out the floodwaters.
It was chaotic at Ban Mae Taw school near the border as forest runoff very quickly flooded the whole compound. Teachers living there had to scramble to move teaching equipment to a higher floor.
