More Malaysians, Singaporeans joining Songkran fun this year

THAI immigration officials in the southern province of Songkhla are working overtime to cope with a flood of Malaysian and Singaporean tourists crossing the border to celebrate the water-throwing festival, INN News reported today (April 12).

The annual event, popularly known as Songkran, is drawing more visitors from Malaysia and Singapore this year. To cope with the workload, immigration officials from elsewhere have been recruited to man the 16 border crossing gates.

Hotel, resort and restaurant owners are expecting more revenue from foreign tourists this year, INN said. Apart from the southernmost province of Yala, foreign tourists will travel further to other Thai tourist cities four sun, sea and sand.
