Man fasting over judges’ homes

A Chiang Mai conservationist this morning (April 25) began a five-day fast and prayers for a peaceful solution to the controversial construction of judges’ residences on the slope of a hill, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

The hunger strike comes as another group of conservationists said they would gather at Tha Pae Gate, which is the landmark of the city, at 8 a.m. on April 29 to pressure the provincial authority to demolish the residences.

A group of judicial officers had earlier suggested a ten-year grace period before a final decision is made on what to do with the residences.
